THE KNOT (yun shui yao)
By ChinaFilm.com Published: 2008-03-20
It started from the 40’s of the last century. A 20-year-old Taiwan medical student, Chen Qiushui, came to the Wang family to be a private tutor: There he fell in love with an art student Wang Biyun. Later Qiushui left Taiwan to become a volunteer doctor at the front line. There he met a nurse, Wang Jindi, who expressed her love for him. He told her that he had a fiancée Wang Biyun in Taiwan. Then followed 20 years of total blockage and isolation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. Qiushui volunteered again, this time to go to Tibet. Jindi changed her name to Wang Biyun and followed him there. Qiushui was touched by her persistent feeling and the two fell in love. Later they both lost their lives in an avalanche disaster during a rescue mission. Biyun, back in Taiwan, never let her hopes perish. During her later years, she settles down in Los Angeles and prepares her one person art exhibit, where many of her paintings display Qiushui’s image.
