Ahfu rescues Ahtao but loses his job. Ahtao feels responsible for his unemployment and hires him as her housekeeper, because she is 10 weeks pregnant. Ahfu is surprised that her husband is not with her to take care of her but later learns that Ahtao has a boyfriend, a New York Times photographer named Will. She wanted to surprise him with the news about the pregnancy, but after 9/11 she lost contact with him. With the anticipated fear of losing her job as a school teacher, Ahtao cannot bear being a single mother, so she wants to hire Ahfu as her husband until the day Will comes back. In spite of how surprised Ahfu is or how absurd he thinks Ahtao’s idea is, he isn’t able to leave the helpless woman in tears. So after Ahfu’s months of kind tending, Ahtao gives birth to a boy.
