Sons and Daughters (bu yi le hu)

The story takes place in rural Guangdong Province. Song Hongyuan, a township cadre, is assigned to work in his hometown, Songjia Village, as village head and is put in charge of family planning. But the situation Song is faced with is very complex: one of the villagers still wants a son despite the fact that he already had three daughters; another man is unable to marry because of physical disabilities, but he intends to buy a son from his brother; and another man has got a retarded son because of inbreeding… With great sincerity and zeal, Song eventually solves all these problems. The film is a moving and interesting comedy with strong local characteristics of southern Guangdong.
