During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Zhou Dachuan, leader of the Qingshan Guerrillas guided by the Communists, is entrusted with helping out a KMT task force looking for missing pay and provisions for the soldiers resisting the Japanese. Bian Lingzi, the female major of the task force, is not cooperative and creates trouble. Dachuan meets with his former lover Fenggu, who is leader of a village self-defence group. Fenggu is still in love with Dachuan, which annoys her colleague Shanhu. In the search for the provisions, conflicts and fights break out between the guerrillas, the task force and the villagers, and emotional conflicts occur between Dachuan, Fenggu, and Shanhu. Dachuan regards resisting the Japanese as the most important task, and so he tries to unite the disparate KMT elements. He succeeds in smashing the Japanese plot and kills the disguised Japanese agent Bian Lingzi, whose Japanese name is Watanabe Keiko.
