Sworn Friends (die xie jin lan)

The story is set in a Northeast China city ravaged by the Japanese invaders in 1937. Fu Qingquan, a member of the Chinese Communist Party, is sent by the underground organization to convince Hu Weihan, a local despot, to resist the invaders. But Hus has thrown his lot in with the Japanese. Ji Zhengtian, Hu’s nephew, is good at martial arts. He hates to follow his treacherous uncle Hu and clashes with He in defending his lover, Qi Manling. By chance, Ji Zhengtian comes to know Fu Qingquan, and admires his kungfu and courage. Influenced by Fu, Ji participates in rescuing a workers’ leader and the struggle to defend their factory. He and Hu becomes sworn friends.
