This story is set in the 1990s. Miss Lili is a beautiful and competent public relations officer in a big hotel, but her lover Doudou is a small-time taxi driver. Feeling he is not her equal, Doudou goes on an exercise program and becomes strong and imposing. But he suffers a lot using equipment to make himself taller. Lili’s tall, but extremely thin, brother is an ageing bachelor. Through a personal ad, he gets to meet a fat girl. The two all in love. But they each have their problems, one in putting on weight, the other in losing weight. The result of all this is a comic tale about the lives of ordinary Beijingers.
