Girl of the Times (xin chao gu niang)

Lin Chunping, a girl from a mountain village, resists an arranged marriage and comes to the city seeking her uncle’s help, but fails to get it. So she asks for help from Yang Ding whom she met with on the way to town. Yang’s father is the manager of a fireworks factory, and he gives Chunping a job as a storekeeper in the plant. Because of losses incurred by the enterprise, Chunping enters into a contract with the factory. She boldly innovates and plans new products. She maintains close ties with the workers and wind their understanding and support. The factory, once on the brink of bankruptcy is now solvent to the point where its products are being sold on world markets. So a village girl has become an entrepreneur. She also gets her man – in the shape of Ying Ding.
