The Grave Robbers (part 4) (dong ling da dao)
By ChinaFilm.com Published: 2008-05-27
Abbot Shen Jiu admires Na Xingting’s patriotic courage and attempt to protect the treasure, and tells Na about his own life. When Na sees the wanted poster put out for him, his last hopes are dashed. He then resolutely decides to cooperate with Abbot Shen to fulfill their plan to protect the treasure. But Shen Hui turns traitor and leads the Japanese to attack the mountain fastness. At the same time, the KMT’s 12th army and garrison force are also mounting a large-scale offensive against the mountain. All the Taoists rise to battle the enemy, but they are hopelessly outnumbered and suffer heavy casualties. She Jiu is killed and the mountain fastness is destroyed by artillery fire. For the safety of all the survivors and the jewels, Na Xingting persuades Shen Zuohong to go to Beijing, taking Qin Delu with them as an hostage. They then notify Chiang Kai-Shek and Yan Xishan of the following three conditions under which they will yield up the treasures: to publicly exhibit the jewels on a chosen date; to try the prime culprit, Sun Dianying; and to make preparations for the setting up of a national museum to house all the jewels. This news sets the outside world in an uproar.
