The Meridian of War (zhan zheng zi wu xian)

An old woman walking west in the mountains along the great Wall outside Beijing reminisces about events almost half a century ago. In 1942, in the same mountains, she was the sole survivor of a group of thirteen unarmed youths attacked by Japanese. “The 9th Company of the 3rd Battalion… marching west along the Great Wall…” A military document was delivered to a battle survivor whose legs had been badly wounded. The Japanese army was closing in. At that perilous moment, a group of kids are walking in the morning mist… The military document is passed from one youth to another. The last person to receive the document is a mere child. A strange group of people then appear on the Great Wall. There is a huge explosion, and all the children are killed. We find ourselves back in the present on the same part of the Great Wall.
