By ChinaFilm.com Published: 2008-06-03
An old woman walking west in the mountains along the great Wall outside Beijing reminisces about events almost half a century ago. In 1942, in the same mountains, she was the sole survivor of a group of thirteen unarmed youths attacked by Japanese. “The 9th Company of the 3rd Battalion… marching west along the Great Wall…” A military document was delivered to a battle survivor whose legs had been badly wounded. The Japanese army was closing in. At that perilous moment, a group of kids are walking in the morning mist… The military document is passed from one youth to another. The last person to receive the document is a mere child. A strange group of people then appear on the Great Wall. There is a huge explosion, and all the children are killed. We find ourselves back in the present on the same part of the Great Wall. The old woman seems to see the kids again, passing in front of her along the Great Wall towards the west…
