Mao Zedong and His Son (mao ze dong he ta de er zi)

This film is an untold story about Mao Zedong. In the summer of 1950, the U.S. invades Korea and the terror of war shrouds Korea and threatens China. Mao Zedong decides to organize the Chinese People’s Volunteers to aid the Korean armies. Mao’s eldest son Mao Anying fights under Peng Dehuai, commander-in-chief of the Volunteers Army and goes to the front. Not long afterwards, Mao Anying dies on the battlefield. Mao feels extreme grief because of the loss of his son. Unaware of her husband’s death, Mao Anying’s wife Liu Siqi waits for his return. Mao Zedong overcomes his grief and puts all his energy into his work, but his daughter-in-law’s weekly visits often plunge him into deep sorrow. Encouraged by Premier Zhou Enlai, Mao is finally able to tell Liu Siqi about his son’s death. Liu leaves in tears, and Mao reminisces about all those close to him who have already died… |
