Wild Mountain Inn (gu ling ye dian)

Deep in the wild mountains, a widow, Zhizi, runs an inn. Although she is young and industrial, she can’t extricate herself rom depression and loneliness. A friend of her husband, Baqing, who is a forest ranger, is meeting her secretly. One day, at dusk after rain, several travelers put up in the inn for the night, one after another. In this out-of-the-way inn they meet by chance and the cups go gaily round. They feel regret that they haven’t met earlier. However, each of them has reason to be on guard against the others. Sure enough, a merchant’s luggage and Zhizi’s money box are stolen. As the thief flees, Baqing turns up and a fight to the death begins between them. In desperation the thief lights an explosive, which Baqing kicks away. Baqing is injured but the thief is captured. He turns out to be an escaped prisoner.
