King Zhuang of Chu (chu zhuang wang)

The story is set in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 B. C.), when King Zhuang of Chu has been on the throne for three years but still remains a figurehead. The power then falls into the hands of the prime minister Dou Yuejiao who wants to usurp the throne with the help of the Kingdom of Jin. King Zhuang remains silent about Dou’s plot, but secretly acts. Supported by his loyal officials and his concubine, he thwarts Dou’s ambition, and goes on to become one of the five most famous warlords in Chinese history.
