In 19644, the Great Ming Dynasty is on the verge of destruction. Emperor Chongzhen hurriedly issues an imperial edict telling the crown prince Zhu Cilang to flee to Nanjing and hopes that he will some day ascend the throne with the help of the surviving ministers and adherents. Not only does the Qing Dynasty want to annex all the territories of the Ming but the surviving Ming ministers of the south install the “Emperor” Hongguang as emperor of a Southern Min Dynasty and back him as a pretender to the imperial throne. Both sides compete ruthlessly to capture the crown prince and the crucial imperial edict which he bears. Eunuch Wang Cheng’en sends his nephew Wang Zhiming to escort the crown prince. Wang is a chivalrous hero with superb kung fu skills and outstanding courage and insight. In various bizarre and dangerous circumstances, with flamboyant bravado he fights all those kung fu masters who want to assassinate the crown prince and steal the edict, and time and again gets the prince out of trouble. But in the end, Wang Zhiming gets killed in the treacherous and vicious whirlpool for power and profit, because he is isolated and cut off from help. The desperate prince throws the imperial edict into the flaming fire… Screenplay: Mu Sheng Director: Yao Shoukang Cinematography: Peng Enli Music: Liu Yanxi Starring: Xu Feng, He Wei, Sun Genfa Running time: 100 min.
