By ChinaFilm.com Published: 2008-05-30
In 1674, Wu Sangui, King of Pingxi, wants to incite rebellion in Yunnan. Before the rebellion, Wu goes to Dali in Yunnan with the King’s concubine Chen Yuanyuan and his daughter Wu Qi. Bai Jianqing, an assassin sent by the Kangxi Emperor goes to Dali to assassinate Wu Sangui. On the way to Dali Bei encounters a masked woman Ningning, who is extremely adept at kung fu. Ningning helps Bao fight off government troops and later free him from jail. Bai then falls in love with this unidentified masked heroine. Bai’s frist attempt to assassinate Wu Sangui fails, so he then disguises himself as a sedan carrier to wait for another chance to kill Wu. Bai finally looks as though success is his, but Wu Sangui gets the better of him. However, Bai is rescued again by the disguised woman. But when Bao wants to kill Wu with a knife, the woman then protects Wu, sustaining a nasty blow in the attack. When this mysterious woman removes her mask, it turns out that Ningning is none other than Wu Sangui’s daughter Wu Qi, who must now choose between her father and her lover… Screenplay: Ni Feng, Wang Wenzhi Director: Wang Wenzhi Cinematography: Xu Shouzeng, Huang Zuyi, Ning Jiakun Art Directors: Ju Lutian, Xu Kaicheng Starring: Li Lingyu, Gou Zhanwen, Hou Yongsheng Running time: 99 min.
